What is There to Say?

I am completely and utterly speechless. Everything I’ve ever known or learned doesn’t even make sense anymore. This is beyond… I don’t know… Is it awesome? Is it awful? It’s just… I don’t know.

Sandie wanted me to point out that that’s the Saint Louis Gateway Arch, though. Thanks, Sandie.

P.S. It just occurred to me what I don’t like about this thing. It’s the title. The title is mind-numbingly stupid and cheesy. And the lettering… well, it makes me think, “Plug it up! Plug it up!” Yeah, okay, I get the vampire thing. Don’t beat me over the head with it by tossing dripping blood into the mix. It just makes it hard to read and it’s not clever. In fact, I refuse to read this book because of the title. There. I’ve said my piece.

This ‘vampire’ looks like a young Fox Mulder. I am ashamed to say he’s making me hot. But what’s the deal with her hair?

What I want to know is… and I’m not even that sure that I really want to know… who is the vampire?

Evie, he totally looks like Fox Mulder with Kevin Dillon hair circa 1987.

I love this artist! She’s LW Perkins

You’ve got to see this piece: http://4dw.net/fishcake/home/g.....agTres.jpg

I’ve actually commissioned LW to do a painting for me.

And as for Fox Mulder/David Duchovny…who wouldn’t want to look at him?

    Mulder!!

I was thinking the chick kinda looks like Tea Leoni too, but with different hair.

I think I like this cover — there’s something appealing about it. Terribly appealing. (No, it’s not just because it has Mulder. It’s not!)

See, this cover is doing its job–it’s making me want to read this book and i don’t even read much romance. I’m more of a sci-fi/fantasy reader by far. Does anyone know if this book is out yet and is it an e-book or a print book? I don’t see a publisher’s name on it. Is it written in first person? I’m about 10 times more likely to read it if it is–I love first person.
And Bam, he is *totally* Mulder. God, it makes me wanna go watch my X-files DVDs all over again.
    Sigh…Evangeline

I’ll hold it in as best as I can. I know I’m just another fan. But I can’t help feeling I can love that secret agent maaaaan…

And I can’t wait anymore for him to discover me. I got it bad for David Duchovny. David Duchovny, why won’t you love me? Why won’t you love me?

My friends all tell me “Girl, you know it’s just a show” but deep within his eyes, I see me wrapped like a bow. Watching the skies for a sign, the FBI is on my mind. I’m waiting for the day when my lucky stars aaaaaalign…

…in the form of David Duchovny. Why won’t you love me? Why won’t you love me? Why won’t you love me?

DAMN YOU, MELJEAN, that song is going to get stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Damn your eyes.

The book is out, and it’s a Liquid Silver ebook!

The author’s first, I believe. Go check it out, please! And while you’re there, get one of mine, too!

LW Perkins is AWESOME. The author specifically asked for a guy who looks like David Duchovny, and that’s what she painted. Perkins also did Angels and Deceivers which is one of my favorite LSB covers. :)

I’m about to assign her another cover, so I’m glad people like her work.

    April,
I do love this work. She’s a great artist.
I went and checked out the book and I liked the excerpt even though it’s written in 3rd person not 1st. The heroine sounds spunky and the hero sounds hunky–what more could you want? : ) Good luck to the author–I sold my first book to LSB too. They’re a wonderful publisher. Evangeline

He does look like a young, hungry Fox Mulder. The picture is a little busy and I’m not crazy about the dripping blood font, but other than that, I like it.

God, I love those big brown bedroom eyes! And Bam, you of all people should know better than to judge a book by its cover.

I do agree about the lettering,Bam-it looks very Goosebumps(and the title sounds like it,too).

The title reminded me of those HELP! My teacher is a drunk! books back in grade school. Nah, they were really like, Help! My teacher is Frankenstein! or something. Ahhh, Scholastic Books.

Oh, and Rogue if she was cast properly? Anyone? Or did she see God, and is prematurely greying?

I thought Anita, too. It even looks like one of the paperback covers from when AB:VH was still interesting to read.

Lynne, the font is my fault — I did the lettering in this one. The author wanted kind of a cheesy horror flick feel to it, though, and with a title that long, my options were slim. I think I did three drafts of the lettering. I’m sure LW Perkins would have done much better with the titling because she chose great fonts and coloring on the Angels and Deceivers lettering.

You’re right: the font is stomach turning.

As to the title: that might not be the author’s fault. The Snake Bite book (whose cover I sent you and whose text I have yet to torment you with) was originally subbed with a different title, but the publisher insisted on changing it to some godawful pulpy title that A. didn’t even fit on the cover, and B. not even I can remember properly.

Yeah, and I wanted a tail on Kash, right April?

    My fault!

I don’t think we changed the title on Celine’s book, but I could be wrong. That’s what it was on the request form, which I received before the book was even assigned an editor. The artist actually suggested the title be made SHORTER, but I leave such decisions to the authors and editors themselves.

And yes, Darragha requested the tail on the Kash cover. :)

Dude, the hero kinda looks like David Duchovny… But in a scary way.

I love this pic, which is really a BIG exception for me. But honestly, what’s the matter with the font? It looks so out of place and disturbs the whole image. Quel dommage!

  26. Melissa
    26

The cover would be perfect if that font used for the title wasn’t so damned big and ugly. The should have stuck with the font used for the author’s name or went with a sans-serif like Arial, Verdana or Tahoma. Take away the title and its simply gorgeous!

Wow, I just got back into town from a long weekend. Thanks for putting my cover art up on the blog. And so large too… Looks cool. I think LW Perkins did a terrific job on it.

And you can blame for the “cheesy” title and lettering. That’s part of my odd sense of humor… And it’s reflected in the heroine’s odd sense of humor. Never reading the Anita Blake books, I didn’t realize she had black hair. Sorry about that Laurell K.! I just love dark hair heroines, I guess. ;)

If you want to rip on a really cheesy title, be sure to check out my serialized novel BRANDI WHYNE AND HER INCREDIBLY EROTIC ADVENTURES. That’s the abbreviated version of the title. I need help with coming up with shorter titles, I guess. ;)

    I’m telling DD that his mug’s been swiped… ;)
I think its cool. The text reminds me of that lettering used for horror flix posters in the early sixties. No, I’m not that old, but have collected my share :)

Hurray for Celine for getting published. I think having a pubbed book with a cover is a great thing. Don’t understand why people are sitting around thinking up things they don’t like about it. I’d rather be writing.

But, face it, ladies, you may or may not like the cover, the font, or the unusual title, but the reader won’t forget it and that just because it does jump glaringly out at you…glenda

Hee, hee, Desiree! If you get a hold of DD, be sure to give him my number, too… ;)

I like the “’60’s Horror Movie” title style myself. I watched millions of those movies growing up and I’ve always loved the campy artwork. Go figure!

I write to entertain, for escape, to have fun and to share a laugh with folks now and then. I refuse to take anything too seriously when it comes to creating fiction. If I want to cry, I’ll turn on the news.

You won’t read the book just because you don’t like the title? You can miss a lot of good books if you use that criteria to refuse giving a chance to a book. Personally, I think there are a lot of Harlequin romances with horrid titles, but upon further investigation, I’ve found some of them are pretty hot. I haven’t read this one yet (I just learned about it today), but it’s already on my wishlist. I’m not wild about the title, either (and why would I want “help” if I’m falling for a vampire, unless it’s help to get him to fall for me, too! A vampire lover comes with a lot of perks!), but it’s not bad.

And yeah, the guy does look like Mulder. I like the woman’s hair…reminds me of Alexandra from “Josie and the Pussycats”!

Cheesy can be good. A good sense of humor is all too scarce in romance.

I have a more pressing question: What is “chick porn?” I know that this site and the stuff it talks about aren’t it (it says so in the title), but what is chick porn anyway? It kind of sounds like something I should avoid.

I don’t see what the big fuss is, Celine is a great author who helps you escape Real Life and does it in a humorous, romantic was LOL

If you only read books where you like the cover and Font then you are missing out on some great books!!!

    PS i like the cover!!
